Under the Health Professions Act, Hearing Aid Practitioners in Alberta are among 30 health professions to become self-governing. The College of Hearing Aid Practitioners of Alberta (CHAPA) has developed bylaws to direct the day-to-day operations of the College. A Code of Ethics sets guidelines that govern the conduct of practitioners and a Standard of Practice describes how professional services are to be provided. With the Health Professions Act, in the province of Alberta, Registered Hearing Aid Practitioners (RHAP) are among the few professions that have attained the right to perform restricted activities. Through strict enforcement of this Act, public safety is assured.
