Saving Your Hearing Over the Holidays!

Posted by Living Sounds

With the holidays fast approaching, our team knows that while all the sights, lights and sounds of the season can be fun, they can also be a potential hazard. We were inspired by the advice in this blog on how to protect you and your family from preventable hearing loss during this most festive season.

Here are three of our favourite tips from the article to save your hearing this holiday season.

  • Jingle bells, choirs and holiday movies are a memorable part of the holiday season. However, even two minutes of exposure at these high-volume types of events can cause hearing loss. That is why we recommend protecting yourself with our ear defenders or you can purchase a pair of noise-cancelling headphones. Our ear defenders also make a perfect stocking stuffer!
  • What’s louder, your child’s toy or a power tool? The answer might surprise you. They both have the same noise level. Save your hearing and theirs by muffling the sound by covering the toy’s speaker with masking or packing tape. It’s an easy DIY project over the holidays. Another alternative is to purchase toys and gifts that are quiet, like books or puzzles.
  • Multiple devices playing simultaneously naturally increases the noise level in the room and can be very harmful to your hearing health. By turning off multiple devices and turning down the volume on your tv or phone, you can save your hearing.
